Athlete Profile: Meet Joy Fields!

When did you start CrossFit?  I started CrossFit in July after my husband took the OnRamp class and signed up in May. Each day he would come home and tell me how much he thought I would enjoy CrossFit.  I finally signed up for OnRamp class in July. When it was over I joined and started the regular classes the very next day!

What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?  I like CrossFit for several reasons. First, I love that we are always doing something new each day. I have yet to do the same exact workout since I started in July. I also love the family type atmosphere at the gym. Everyone is there to better their self while encouraging and pushing you. When others finish their workout, they gather around to cheer the others on and push them to finish. My most favorite part is having a coach! I tried going to a regular gym by myself fore many years.....most of those years I barely even went. I would walk in and do some cardio and then not know what else to do. I love going in and having the coach tell me what I am doing for the day. I also like how the coaches push me when I'm slowing down and want to stop.

What’s your favorite movement?  I think I enjoy doing lower body movements rather than upper body. I also like all the stretching and flexibility movements we do before and after the workouts...that is something I never did at the gym.

What is your favorite WOD?  My favorite WODs are the team workouts on Friday.

What are your least favorite movements?  My least favorite movements are the burpees and clean and jerks.

What is your least favorite WOD?  My least favorite WOD is anything involving burpies!

What’s your favorite movie?  Steel Magnolias

What’s your favorite genre of music?  Pop.

What’s your favorite quote?  Rome wasn't built in a day. I have to remind myself of this quote daily!

Who is your celebrity crush?  Ryan Reynolds!!!

What advice do you have for CrossFit Guild newcomers?  Just do it! I wasted over 2 years thinking about CrossFit and worrying that I couldn't do it.  I wish I had started the day Stacie stopped me in our neighborhood and told me about it! It's hard and challenging but you'll be coming back for more!
